How to Install a Car Alarm in a Toyota Tacoma

Most late-model Toyota Tacoma trucks have a factory alarm installed but older models are ready for new alarms. Installing a car alarm in the Toyota Tacoma requires a working knowledge of car electrical systems and the correct wiring diagram. Installing the alarm on a Toyota Tacoma takes a little patience and about two hours.

      Read the alarm installation manual carefully and identify all of the components and connections. Open the hood and remove the positive battery cable from the terminal.

      Find a highly visible location for the LED light and drill a hole. Snap the LED in place and run the wire under the Tacoma's dash. Locate the power lock relay, if the Toyota truck is so equipped and connect the alarm lock module.

      Install the shock sensor per the manufacturer's recommendation. Identify the starter wire in the ignition harness and attach the start disable relay.

      Connect the alarm power wire to the positive battery cable and run it along the firewall to the driver's side. Mount the alarm siren in an open area, facing the engine to limit water contact when driving. Feed the power and siren wires through the firewall using an existing hole or by drilling a new one.

      Attach all of the wires to the alarm control module and secure the module as far into the dash as possible. Connect the positive battery cable and test the alarm. Adjust the sensitivity if desired and secure loose wires with zip ties.
